Cat started road racing in 2002 and joined Alto Velo the next year in search of mentorship and great teammates. For 2004 she will be cutting back her work hours so she can dedicate more time to training and racing. Previous to the road she had always been a mountain biker and had done a few races. Other athletic endeavors have included Nordic and downhill ski racing, as well as road and trail running and racing.
She has a BA in Economics from the University of Vermont and worked for two and a half years as an Analyst for a joint venture between Wells Fargo Bank and Nikko Securities of Tokyo (now called Barclays BZW Global Investors). After that she taught English at a women's junior college in Kyoto, before getting involved in guiding bicycling trips for Backroads, a Bay Area Active Travel Company, in Europe and Latin America, where she could use her Italian and Spanish skills. In 2002 a promotion to a managerial position within the company brought her to the Bay Area where her road racing career got started.
