Webcor 2007 - Meet the Team Mara Abbott is a stunning addition to the Webcor Women's Cycling Team. Mara and Webcor CEO Andy Ball. How do you Go Green? Recycling! Buying in bulk. Printing double-sided. Re-using containers. Buying free range meat and eggs! Buying local produce. Not using my space heater. Bike commuting! And more recently, ceasing to use my car altogether (though that may be an effect of its current state!)

Name: Mara Abbott

Residence: Walla Walla, WA

Home Town: Boulder, CO

Years Racing: 2

Years on Webcor: 1

Top reason for joining Webcor: Because I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to ride for a team that I already respected and admired on the bike, which is comprised of people who are brilliant, and passionate about cycling AND LIFE, and who inspire me all the more as I get to know them!

Tell us about your background and goals – both on and off the bike?
Born and raised in Boulder, CO and the lovely mountains beyond! I am currently in my junior year majoring in economics at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. Historically, I was a swimmer. I have competed in swimming since I was nine years old… my favorites being the distance events!! I swim for my college. I began cycling by getting coerced into entering the 24 hours of Moab mountain bike race my junior year of high school. I went on to race mountain bikes over the next year, but largely focused on swimming until I got to college. In college I experienced my first road racing experience with the Whitman cycling team. It was an experience which I absolutely adored, and which has had a dramatic effect on my vision of the future. I wish to do something truly special with my cycling. My goal for the next year is to learn… to become a complete cyclist, to understand what I am doing, and why I am doing it. And I want to climb up every mountain that I have ever climbed faster than I have climbed it before. I want to win a race that I get flowers for! And in the future? I want to return to the races I sampled last year, and I want to win them. I want to be one of the people I now look up to. I wish to attend the Olympics someday. I want to look at the view from various tops of podiums all across the world. I don’t know the specific goals yet. But they will come out. And while doing this, I want to learn about the world… I want to speak languages. I want to work with governments and activist groups. I want to be involved in the WORLD.
