Tell us about your background and goals – both on and off the bike?
I have always been involved in organized sports – basketball, softball, and field hockey as a kid, and rowing since I was a junior in high school. Throughout college I was a member of the varsity crew team at Mount Holyoke College.

After college, I moved to Vermont and the opportunities to row were limited, so I did some hiking and rock climbing to keep fit, yet missed the competitive side of being active. In 1999 I began mountain bike racing and loved it; this was also the year I started my master’s degree at the University of Vermont and joined the cycling team. Collegiate cycling was a great way to get into cycling as it is supportive and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, in 2001 I broke my wrist and was side-lined for a couple months from racing.

I switched to road racing in 2002 and raced for a local team based out of New England. I was immediately bitten by the bug! I moved to California in the fall of 2002 and joined the Los Gatos Women’s team. I raced both regionally and nationally that year and got picked up by Canadian-based Rona for 2004. This was a huge year of growth for me, as we had a heavy focus on NRC stage races, and I was a domestique on the team, I worked hard to support our GC leader. In 2005 I joined Webcor and was thrilled at the opportunity to work with a talented group of women. The year was a success from the start, with multiple wins both nationally and regionally. The highlight of the year for me was winning Elite Road Nationals and qualifying for the World Championships.

I'm glad 2006 is over. A month and a half into it, I was involved in a very serious training accident that left me with seven+ broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken collarbone, and 5-night stay in the hospital. Needless to say, this is not how you want to start the season. My goals went from winning races to just getting out of bed and healing.

Fortunately, with time the body heals and through the amazing support of my teammates, friends, and family, I am back racing. Now in 2007, I hope make the World’s team again while supporting my teammates to achieve their own goals.
