Webcor 2007 - Meet the Team Laura Yoisten is at home in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Alberta. How do you Go Green? I think the biggest thing for me is recycling. It's so simple to put recyclable items in one bin and garbage in the other and it greatly reduces the amount of garbage you have. I also try to reuse paper when printing off documents that do not have to be handed in. So what if your favorite cookie recipe is on the back of your directions. Maybe you can even make them when you get where you are going.

Name: Laura Yoisten

Residence and Home Town: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Years Racing: 7

Years on Webcor: 1

Top reason for joining Webcor: At first I was a little nervous to join such a prestigious stage race team, but this winter, I stepped up my training and pushed myself to go out into the mountains and suffer.  I think Webcor will force me to step up my game and I am ready for the challenge.

Tell us about your background and goals – both on and off the bike?
I started cycling at age 14 on the mountain bike trails in the Rocky Mountains near Calgary. From my childhood dream of one day competing as a downhill mountain biker, I have now experienced all the aspects of cycling, maturing into a career as a full-time road and track cyclist.

My first international competition was at the 2001 Junior Road and Track World Championships. I developed through the sport and had a breakthrough year in 2004 when I raced on the National Development Team in multiple international events achieving results above expectations.  In 2005 I completed my first full road season, competing in many NRC races, the Pan American Championships in Argentina, and several road world cups.

Through 2006, I raced with the Victory Brewing Cycling Team, where I was able to capitalize on my strength as a road sprinter and win multiple events.

My off-season consists mainly of a six week block where I fit in an entire year of work, as a porter at a hospital in Calgary, usually in the months of October and November, to cover the rest of the year’s excursions.  This off season, I had an extra exciting week where I planned my wedding and married my best friend of 15 years, Ryan McKenzie, in just five days.

Top results of 2006:
1. Central Valley Stage Race, 1st overall
2. Sequoia Cycling Classic Criterium, 1st
3. McLane Pacific Cycling Classic Criterium, 2nd
4. Canadian National Track Championships Points Race, 2nd

Top career results:
1. 1998-2001 4-Time Junior National Champion, Mountain Bike and Track
2.  2001 Junior World Track Championships, 8th
3.  2004 Canadian National Espoir Road Race Champion
4.  2004 Tour de Grand Montreal, 3rd Stage 4
5.  2004 Wachovia Liberty Classic, 5th
