Katheryn Curi - May 15 - THE Dress
After five weeks on the road with the National Team in Europe and returning to the States with only a brief respite before the Joe Martin Stage Race began, I was very much looking forward to a bit of down time before the next stage race – Tri Peaks – which started on the 17th.

Amber, Rachel, and I decided to do Tri Peaks and looking back, I view it as one of those things that "seemed like a good idea at the time." But, as plane tickets had been purchased, host housing confirmed, and registration done, we were committed.

As a way to take a break from the biking scene, the three of us agreed to not even touch the bikes and instead have a relaxing day. So, after a lengthy visit to a local coffee shop, which conveniently had free wireless, we began to work our way through our "to do" lists:

  • Stop by Best Buy so Rachel could see if they could help fix her computer, which seemed to develop a mind of its own and suddenly freeze up.
  • Go to Bank of America so Rachel and Amber could deposit their huge race winnings.
  • Find a post office so that I could mail some stuff off to a friend.
  • Locate a Walgreens to restock on various toiletries and other sundries.

The final stop was a visit to a local bridal shop so that I could at least look at wedding dresses as I still had not found one that I liked enough to purchase. Through a recommendation of a friend of our host family, we entered the Bridal Cottage to be greeted by Vickii and her helpful assistant who were soon pulling dresses off the racks after asking me what type of dress I wanted. My explanation – simple but elegant – gave them enough to start with and I figured "the sky's the limit" as I would work off of what I did and did not like to narrow the options.

As I tried various dresses on, I commented that I would have a tough decision as I could kind of see myself walking down the aisle in several of the dresses. I also said "you know, I don't think that I am the kind of person who will put on a dress and know instantly that it is THE dress" (or something to that effect). Hmm… not a dress later did I step out of the dressing room and up onto the platform and know that this was THE dress. I teared up instantly and asked Vickii to grab a veil. With Amber and Rachel's grins matching the size of my own, I knew that this was the ONE.

Who would have known that I would find my wedding dress in Arkansas while taking a rest day between stage races. Makes for a great story!
