I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin – a small town in the mid-west with one major claim to fame – The Green Bay Packers. Yes, I am a Cheesehead. Love football, even willing to miss bike rides for a Packer game.
I am is the sole proprietor of Scaled-Up Productions. Established in 1986, Scaled-up is a graphic design firm located in the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula. Along with supplying communication materials to local companies and non-profits, Scaled-Up has been branching out into event planning and support, primarily for cycling-related activities.
I started racing in 1996 in all disciplines; my best results were in mountain biking and time trialing. This has evolved into specializing in timed events on the road and track. I'm a 4-time State Champion at the track for timed events and won a bronze medal at the State Time Trail Championships in 2005.
In 2004, I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. The Beat the Clock and Help Beat Cancer Time Trail Series is the result of my cancer experience. Currently much more of a promoter than a racer, Beat the Clock, along with the auction, mini-marathon, and a Pilates afternoon, have made me one of the top fund-raisers for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This has become my passion.
I love being a part of the Webcor Women’s Racing Team. My role is the Art Director as well as assisting Karen Brems with the details of management. What a great opportunity to meet incredible people and sponsors. I am constantly being reminded how great the cycling community is. Go Webcor!
How do you go green? I try to drive less; working at home saves a commute; trips are always combined; I coast in the car whenever possible and do not gun the accelerator; I do not run the AC; at home I use a small office lamp near my desk instead of turning on the overhead room lights; I turn off lights in rooms not being used; I don't let water run for dishes, brushing teeth, etc.; I eat less meat, more tofu and rice and beans; I make lunches; we use zip-lock containers for sandwiches, which really cuts down on plastic; I re-use recycling bags; I take WEBCOR go green grocery bags for shopping; I use shower caps from hotels as covers for bowls. Still working on: unplugging items that are not being used, printing double-sided, composting, and buying locally. Next car will be a hybrid.
