How do you Go Green?

My car runs on biodiesel fuel; I compost, recycle, and reuse; use travel mugs and cloth grocery bags; buy organic and in bulk; bicycle or use public transportation when possible; use Energy Star light bulbs; use electronic paperless billing; am enrolled in Renewable Choice Energy (purchasing wind energy credits).

One aspect that attracted me to Webcor was the “Go Green” motto.  I was raised to be very aware of our environment, to be conscious of my footprint, and to be diligent about composting and recycling.  Recently I bought my first car – a 1982 Mercedes diesel wagon, which I run on biodiesel – vegetable oil that has gone through a refinery process. There is a lot of waste in the cycling world from transportation to discarded gel wrappers, and I am excited to be a part of a team working against that.

I was born and raised in Northern Vermont on a pair of alpine skis. My high school years were spent at Burke Mountain Academy, a ski academy for alpine and nordic racers wishing to devote themselves to their sport, while also receiving a solid education. Upon graduating, I decided to postpone college for a year to pursue my ski racing aspirations. Shortly after moving to Steamboat Springs, CO, I received a season-ending knee injury. I joined my brother in Boulder, CO and started to ride his cyclocross bike as rehab for my knee. The competition bug was eating at me, and after entering my first bike race in May of 2006, I was hooked. While my focus is road racing, I also race a full season of cyclocross, and find mountain bike racing and riding a refreshing break when I’m not on the road.

I am young and new to cycling and am eager to learn more about teamwork and tactics from the wealth of experience that the 2008 Webcor team brings. I look forward to racing consistently on the national circuit and directing my strengths into our team’s success.
