Growing up near Albany, NY, l was always outside – running track and cross-country, hiking in the Adirondacks, cross-country skiing, or raking a seemingly endless amount of leaves. In college, while earning a degree in chemical engineering, I continued to feed my competitive side with running, but it wasn’t until I moved to San Diego that I discovered cycling. In 2007, while I spent my days teaching high school math and chemistry (and really, just entertaining amazing teenagers), I started racing the Southern California road circuit. As foolish as it sounds, I knew right from the start that I wanted to become a pro.
At the end of the 2007 season, I met Webcor Builders Cycling Team Directeur Sportif Karen Brems and earned the chance to guest ride for Webcor in the Bermuda Grand Prix. Riding a road bike that could out-weigh many mountain bikes, I placed 3rd in the uphill time trial. This was the start of a fantastic relationship with the team and it opened the door to the world of professional cycling.
In 2008, I raced for Webcor in the US, Canada, and Europe, learning a lot from the team staff and my classy (and fast!) teammates. Last year I began to test my abilities in time trialing, enjoyed any opportunity to protect a teammate, was inspired by the world-class level of racing in Europe, and looked forward to any challenging, mountainous stage race.
I am very excited to return to Webcor Builders for the 2009 season and look forward to working with the team and staff to show that we are the best team in North America!
