With a Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biology from the University of Vermont, an M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Colorado State University, and 10 years of coaching and racing experience, Jay Gump brings prodigious knowledge and skill to his role as Director Sportif of the Webcor Builders Professional Cycling Team.

Jay's interest in coaching developed from training almost two miles above sea level while living outside of Breckenridge, CO. Winning races and rapidly upgrading to Category 1 prompted him to examine what he was doing right—especially since his days as a runner proved that he was not the most “genetically gifted” athlete. Jay supplemented his training with education to understand how the human body works. Now with almost 10 years of coaching experience, he works full time helping athletes maximize their potential.

Jay has also owned Incline Training, a physiologic testing and consulting company, since 1997.
